Zookeeper Gives Her Opinion On The Shooting Of Harambe The Gorilla

A qualified opinion.

Recently a gorilla named Harambe was shot dead at Cincinnati Zoo after a child fell into his enclosure.

Fearing for the safety of the young boy, zoo officials killed Harambe to be on the safe side.

Since, many opinions have been flying around about the killing of the animal, the boy's parents, and whether or not any harm would have actually been done to the 4-year-old had Harambe not been killed.

At the time, director of the zoo, Thane Maynard, said that it was a tough decision to make, but 'they made the right choice because they saved that little boy's life'.

Since, various footage of the incident has gone viral, and it has become a big talking point on the internet.

Former zookeeper Amanda O'Donoughue was one of those to weigh in with her qualified opinion, putting up a Facebook post that says the gorilla's posture was 'pretty much the stuff of any keeper's nightmares'.

Amanda points out that after working with gorillas since her twenties, she has never come in contact with one due to their sheer size and strength.

Keen to give an example of the dangers of gorillas, she says that she always worked with them with a welded mesh barrier between her and the mammal, and included a picture of her doing so.

Amanda concludes that there should be no way in which anyone can get into a zoo enclosure, whether on purpose or through a worrying accident. If that is eliminated, then animals will not have to be killed in such horrifying circumstances.
