The tensions between Ukraine and Russia are not unknown. In fact, over the last few years the intensity has stepped up.

As things had seemingly simmered a little though, suddenly new pictures show there are still troubles.

You'll probably have never heard of the Ukrainian town of Balakiya, it's about 60 miles away from Kharkiv - where tensions are high between the natives and Russian separatist rebels.

Balakiya is home to an ammunition base, holding thousands of tonnes of missiles and artillery weapons.

Russian rebels have supposedly snuck into the base and blown the place up. With lethal consequences.

The place has gone up like Sydney Bridge on New Year's Day. A true 'firework-like' display.

Explosion after explosion can be seen from the base, with longer-range missiles firing further afield.

A huge cloud of smoke along with a fireball can be seen billowing out from the factory.

Apparently, everyone within a 10km radius is in danger and around 20,000 people have been evacuated to try and keep the population safe.

Ukrainian media, supposedly purposely under-reporting it, have not reported any civilian casualties yet.

Heightened conflict between Ukraine and Russia, as well as Russia and everybody else, has seemingly made Vladimir Putin concerned for this country's citizens.

Last year, the Russians took part in a three-day civil defence exercise, in which 40 million people were 'evacuated'.
