Floyd Mayweather Hints At Why Conor McGregor Could Beat Him

Floyd Mayweather Hints At Why Conor McGregor Could Beat Him

Not exactly 'fighting talk'.

It's already anticipated to be the biggest night in boxing history, IF it ever goes ahead. Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor have traded verbal blows and there's been a lot of press surrounding the boxing star meeting the MMA legend.

According to reports, both have already agreed to a 'billion-dollar fight' having signed a deal and settling on their respective fees.

Only last month, the dust-up was described as 'approvable', with the T-Mobile Arena already supposedly booked, and now it just awaits the green light from the Nevada Athletic Commission.

The usual style for a boxer, or two opponents from any sport, is to trade blows, verbally. Tyson Fury is a master of it, and the same goes for David Haye. Even Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua, despite the respect they showed for each other, had the odd dig at one another.

However, Floyd Mayweather has now laid out reasons as to why Conor McGregor could actually beat him, saying it would be hard to 'knock' the man.

Mayweather will be installed as favourite for the future fight, and boasts a perfect 49 wins from 49 fights. That 50th is definitely on the horizon.

The American was in Los Angeles on Tuesday for a fancy event alongside Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey, but it was after the do when the fighter was quizzed on the fight and he was asked if he'd come out of retirement.

He did start by bigging himself up, and his sport for that matter, by saying boxing is superior to MMA.

"All you have to do is look up the numbers for boxing and MMA, and you'll see who stands at the top," he said.

"I've never seen an MMA fighter make $300m in one night, I've never seen it. I've never seen an MMA fighter make $100m in one night. I haven't seen an MMA fighter make $80m in one night."

Mayweather was referring to his big fight night with Manny Pacquiao, which was worth an estimated $400m (£310m).

He was then asked the question if he had fully retired from boxing, to which he could only manage a smile, almost hinting that wasn't the case.

When asked about McGregor, Mayweather said refused to put the Irishman down.

"Conor McGregor is the second biggest name in MMA," he added (OK, a sly dig). "So, I'm not going to sit right here and knock Conor McGregor. He's gone out there and done what he's had to do. It's obvious he's done something right thus far to get to the point where he's at."

Many have said that the fight could be over relatively quickly, with Mayweather the victor, which is something he denies.

"I've been off for a couple of years and I'm 40 years old now. So, I'm a lot older and he still in his 20s," he added.

"So that could play a major key, we don't know. And he's a heavy hitter."

Is that Mayweather backing down slightly? Is it mind games? The world still holds its breath on the fight announcement.
