Mayweather Responds To Dana White's Offer For Conor McGregor Fight

Mayweather Responds To Dana White's Offer For Conor McGregor Fight

"He's a fucking comedian!"

Yesterday, UFC president Dana White appeared on "The Herd" with Colin Cowherd on FS1 and made an offer to Mayweather and McGregor to fight together on PPV.

He said: "I'll tell you what Floyd, here's a real offer and I'm the guy, I'm the guy that can actually make the offer and I'm actually making a real offer. We pay you $25 million, we'll pay Conor $25 million and then we'll talk about pay-per-view at a certain number. There's a real offer."

Mayweather has now responded and, it's fair to say, he's not impressed.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, he said: "He's a fucking comedian!" When asked if he would be accepting the offer, he pointed to his watch. But it's no ordinary watch... it's a Hublot watch, believed to be worth around $250,000. Yeah, maybe he needs more than a measly $25 million.

Mayweather has discussed the figure that would need to be stumped up for him to step back into the ring - and it's a cool $100 million (£81m).

"We tried to make the Conor McGregor fight," Mayweather said. "They know what my number is. My number is a guaranteed $100million (£81m). That was my number.

"We are willing to give him $15million (£9.7m) and then we can talk about splitting the percentage - the back end - on the pay-per-view. But of course, we're the 'A side'. How can a guy talk about making 20 or 30 million if he has never made eight million or nine million in a fight?"

This happened when Mayweather appeared as a guest on ESPN's First Take, and called out UFC champion McGregor and Dana White to get a deal done for a one-on-one with The Notorious.

Mayweather, 39, retired unbeaten in 2015 and admitted a bout with the 28-year-old Irishman - who recently obtained a boxing licence - is the only thing that could tempt him back into the ring.

"Only thing I'm probably interested in is the Conor McGregor fight," Mayweather said. "I'm a businessman, and it makes business sense. I believe in what me and [adviser] Al Haymon talk about every day - I believe in working smarter, not harder."

McGregor became the UFC's first dual-division champion in November and has previously challenged Mayweather to an MMA fight. However, last year the Irishman had a boxing licence granted by the California State Athletic Commission.

At the time, McGregor's agent, Audie Attar, confirmed that his team were 'very interested' in setting up a match with Mayweather.

Mayweather's current winning record of 49-0 seems to be especially tantalising. Kavanagh added: "He's 49-0. I'm sure he wants that 50th fight. It's a nice number.

"Right now, ask the average guy on the street, who do you want to see Mayweather fight, what fight's going to get the most interest, and it would be a superfight with Conor.

"Certainly stranger things have happened in combat sports than a Mayweather-Conor fight. I wouldn't be surprised by it, so who knows?

"It's one of the many options that are there for Conor, so let's see how the next couple of weeks go."

It had looked that there could still be numerous stumbling blocks to making the long-awaited fight happen; as McGregor is under is contract with the UFC, any potential fight against Mayweather would have to involve a co-promotion or the UFC's blessing. That obstacle now looks to be well and truly overcome.
