Wimbledon Fans Notice That Tennis Players Like To Sniff New Balls They're Given

Dominika Cibulkova may have started the trend.

People love to scrutinise pictures of athletes, as they're captured in a specific moment of time.

It's what the internet was made for, really. Unflattering poses, or someone being in a position that looks like something else is great for memes, and we're all better for it.

With Wimbledon once again underway, people have been noticing players sniffing the new tennis balls they're given.

They're could be some kind of ritual behind players like Dominika Cibulkova getting a whiff of the balls - perhaps it's a superstition - but it's still quite odd to see.

Cibulkova is such a prolific ball sniffer that people have questioned her on it, wondering if it's for luck. But as it turns out, she just likes the smell.

Because she likes the scent of the balls so much she's been doing it for years, so much so that her nostrils can sense which type of ball she's given.

She told BBC last year that if she was blindfolded and given a number of balls she could differentiate between which tournaments they're from. So they put her to the test.

Seriously...

Other players have apparently been getting their nose right into the balls too, so Cibulkova could have kick started some kind of a trend.

Either that or they're really, really nice to smell.

Kind of want to have a whiff now.
