Indie Space Agency Holds Anti-Trump Protest 90,000 Feet Above Earth

The Donald just got trolled from space. This is a first.

If you've got a message you want to share with the world, then why not send it into space?

Especially if it's a giant 'screw you'.

The Autonomous Space Agency Network (ASAN), who encourage DIY space exploration (sounds risky), used Donald Trump's favourite method of communication and then amped it up a notch.

It sent a homemade weather balloon with a Twitter message for Trump 90,000 feet into the air.

Tagging @realDonaldTrump, the message - pictured high above our planet - simply read: "Look at that, you son of a bitch."

Whatever you think about Trump, this is very cool and pretty clever.

And although the message didn't pass through the layer of atmosphere that is considered actual 'outer space' - it's still an impressive feat.

ASAN was inspired by American astronaut Edgar Mitchell, the sixth man to walk on the moon who passed away last year.

His time in space had given him a worldly view on politics.

He famously said: "You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it.

"From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, 'look at that, you son of a bitch'."

Ouch.

And while ASAN can't actually grab Donald Trump by the scruff of the neck and take him into space, it did the next best thing.

We know that Trump is very touchy about tweets that criticise him, so who knows what he thinks of ASAN's endeavour.

So why did the space agency bother to send the tweet into space in the first place?

ASAN, like a lot of American organisations, is rather annoyed at the cuts that the American president is making to educational programmes.

Trump is going to get rid off several environmental and science-related agencies, including NASA's earth science programme - something he announced in the first few days of his presidency.

Scientists are understandably a bit mad, and have organised their own protest on April 22 in Washington.

The agency said in a statement: "ASAN believes artistic creativity is as crucial to life as scientific curiosity and technological innovation. All ASAN missions presuppose a will to creative independence in space."

Apparently it only took a couple of hours for the balloon to reach 90,000 feet. I've been in traffic jams longer than that.
