Fury As Public Petition Calls For McCann's To Sit Lie Detector Test

Yet more controversy in the case...

There's yet more public outrage towards Kate and Gerry McCann, as a petition has been released online calling for Maddie's parents to sit a lie detector test.

It comes as the disappearance of the English toddler nears its 10th anniversary.

It came about on the Care2 Petitions website and is entitled 'Public want the McCann's to take voluntary lie detector test' - so far with around 27,000 supporters.

A source, close to Kate and Gerry, has criticised the petition calling it 'more utter rubbish' and said the couple will not sit a lie detector as 'they've got nothing to lie about'.

They continued to say 'it's just nonsense to suggest they have'.

Speaking to The Sun, the source said: "Lie detectors are not legally admissible in any court action in this country.

"Any person can set up a petition about anything under the sun. This is the second one which has recently gone up on social media against Kate and Gerry.

"But it's not on the official parliamentary website which means it will not be open for possible discussion by MPs."

The original petition wanted Maddie's parents prosecuted for child neglect.

In the last few months alone, the McCanns have faced increasing scrutiny over the disappearance of their, then, three-year-old daughter.

Recently, there have been questions over their role in the missing toddler, and whether they are now trying to cash in as it approaches a decade since she disappeared.

A British detective appeared on This Morning claiming that Maddie had escaped the flat to go and find her parents; while a former Portuguese police crime expert rubbished the theory, and claimed she died in the flat.

Maddie, or Madeliene, went missing from the family apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal in 2007.

She would now be 13-years-old as detectives continue their search for clues, and were last reported to be searching for the person they believe 'kept secrets' from them as they carried out their initial investigation.
