Argos Worker Says He Came Up With £1.5m-Saving Idea, Gets Rewarded With £10 Gift Card

Ouch.

An Argos worker says he came up with an idea which saved the company around £1.5million, and was rewarded with a £10 gift voucher for his trouble.

Mark Heslehurst responded with a list of suggestions when all staff were asked to email ideas to Argos chairman Mike Coupe, reports the Sun.

Among the ideas put forward by part-time delivery driver Mark was a suggestion that Argos vans should only use Sainsbury's petrol stations to fill up, which the company decided was a good way to cut costs and announced they would be implementing.

Mark, who has been with the company for two years, says a manager told him the savings made would amount to 'about £1.5million'.

Pretty good idea, if you ask me.

He told the paper the idea seemed 'quite obvious' to him, but that sometimes things can be overlooked.

So, in summary, he makes his suggestion and the next thing he knows, it's been brought in and a manager has even gone so far as to tell him it will save the company a bunch of money.

So, maybe a reward or a 'thank you' of some sort is in order? You know, credit where credit is due and all that.

Well, I'm not sure what Mark was expecting when he was told about his million-pound-saving idea being introduced, but he was handed a £10 gift voucher. And, perhaps understandably, he now seems to be a little bit angry at the gesture.

He told the Sun he thinks they 'might have done something more' and that perhaps they've 'got it wrong' this time.

However, a spokesperson for Argos told the Sun the idea had already been thought of by another member of staff, but thanked him for his suggestions.
