Dashcam Footage Shows Mechanics Taking Sports Car For A Spin

Dashcam Footage Shows Mechanics Taking Sports Car For A Spin

The owner is not impressed!

Given the chance of taking a sports car out for a spin, nine out of 10 people would probably do it. OK, so those statistics are just estimates, but it's probably true if you were given the keys to one.

Each day, hundreds of people hand their car keys over to the men in the garage, and the mechanics must resist the temptation to take it out for a ride.

However, one worker at Johnson's Mazda in Swindon, Wiltshire, showed little self-restraint as the owner's dashcam footage showed him flooring it on a test drive.

Iain Inglis, 47, had dropped his Mazda RX-8 off at the garage for a routine airbag recall, and assumed everything was normal. That was until he checked the hidden camera footage.

The clip shows the Japanese sports car being 'red-lined' by a worker, whilst blaring out loud music.

At several points in the video, a beep can be heard to indicate the car has exceeded its 9,000 revs-per-minute limit.

Mr Inglish now claims that the staff member has damaged the car's highly-responsive rotary engine.

The footage shows the worker picking up the car from Mr Inglis' home, before it heads to the garage for repair.

It's then taken for a wild ride, where comments can be heard about 'ragging' the car.

Mr Inglis is now asking for free work on the car, which goes beyond a compensation package he originally agreed to several months earlier

"When it was dropped off, I just had this funny feeling," he explained. "So I checked the dashcam and found the car being abused, thrashed and red-lined by the driver.

"The worst parts are when it arrives at the dealership and when it leaves. It was a sunny day and the driver must have decided to go for it. It was horrible to watch.

"Once I had shown the footage to the general manager he apologised and offered a free service."

The dealership apologised for the 'regrettable' incident on June 26, 2016, which resulted in an internal investigation and subsequent disciplinary action for the member of staff involved.

Inglis, and the general manager, originally agreed on all four wheels being refurbished, a full fluid change, excluding oil, and a Mazda used car warranty.

Mr Inglis is now trying to sell the car, originally bought second-hand with 4,000 miles on the clock, for £2,500 with engine problems, which he reckons has wiped £1,000 off the price.

Johnsons Cars Ltd, in a statement, said: "During the investigation, we carried out a number of tests on the engine which all failed to highlight any damage to the engine when compared to tests prior to the event.

"Following on from this we discussed a number of options for a compensation agreement as a gesture of goodwill.

"Mr Inglis acknowledged that we had restored his faith, as a customer, as a company that goes above and beyond to fix issues."
