Lorry Driver Versus Car Owner In Road Rage Brawl As Commuters Watch On

Lorry Driver Versus Car Owner In Road Rage Brawl As Commuters Watch On

Plus an intervening cyclist.

Road rage is the one burning anger it can be difficult to control. The world would be an easier place if everybody could just drive properly, right?

Of course, that would mean taking the middle lane hoggers off the motorway, removing the white van men who drive up your arse, and banning people who cut you up at a junction. Sorted.

A lorry driver in London also wanted the owner of a grey saloon car taken off the road, judging by his behaviour in rush hour.

On Friday, at around 7pm in New Cross, footage showed the HGV driver climb down from his cabin and jab the driver through the window of a car that had stopped in front of his truck.

By the looks of the positioning of the car, it seems as if he had cut up the lorry. But it still feels a bit of an over-reaction.

Watching it all, from the top deck of a double decker bus, was a member of the public, Andre Coolahan, who filmed it all and put it on YouTube.

After words were exchanged, the driver of the silver-coloured car then gets out of his vehicle to take on the lorry driver.

But as he does, the lorry driver, heavier built than the man in the car, swings for him.

As they face off in the middle of the road, further delaying the traffic, one woman gets out of her car and has a go at the pair.

They aren't interested in what she has to say, though, as the car driver wraps his belt around his knuckles and begins to attack the lorry driver with it.

The resilient HGV man overcomes the car driver once more and pushes him against a garden rail with a flurry of punches - even the dustbin suffers as a result.

A cyclist then intervenes to calm the situation, which temporarily puts a halt to things, before the motorist goes back for seconds (or is that thirds by now?).

Eventually, a truce is called and they both return to their vehicles.

The Metropolitan Police have said that they were called to an incident, but have been unable to track down the drivers.

A spokeswoman for the Met said: "Police were called at 7:12pm on June 30 to reports of a disturbance involving two drivers on New Cross Road.

"Upon arriving, nobody made themselves known to the police.

"Officers carried out an area search but there was no trace of the people involved."

When someone does something bad to you, for example a motorcyclist streams past you, dangerously, at 100mph on a country lane, you sometimes hope that karma comes back to bite them at some point.

I reckon this driver would have hoped for karma when this pedestrian had a go at him, for no apparent reason. What he didn't expect is for the karma to be almost instantaneous.
