A pregnant woman has had acid thrown over her baby bump in yet another horrific attack.

The incident occurred in East London according to The Sun, where the woman's partner also sustained injuries to his face.

Both were rushed to hospital from Mile End Road after the attack in the early hours of July 4.

"A substance was thrown in the complainant's face that burned him instantly," Prosecutor Kavitha Tharson said. "The girlfriend also had liquid thrown over her that caused her harm. The acid has gone on her tummy, I have no information as to the impact on the pregnancy.

"I can only assume some impact has been made."

Mustafa Ahmed, 19, appeared at Thames Magistrates Court where he was charged with with one count of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and one count of attempted wounding with intent to do GBH.

The teen denies the attack, and only spoke to confirm his name, age and address.

"There's no doubt that the attack was a horrible one and I am conscious of the fact that offences of this nature are a matter of public concern at the moment," Ahmed's defence counsel Larry Matthews told the court.

"It is an extremely serious allegation and if convicted there would be an extremely lengthy sentence.

"But he emphatically denies any involvement in this particular incident.

"He did so when interviewed by police yesterday."

There have been a spate of gruesome acid attacks across the UK as of late, with aspiring model Resham Khan and her cousin, Jameel Muhktar being victims last month.

The pair had stopped at a set of red lights on Khan's 21st birthday when the attacker pulled up alongside and carried out the attack, forcing the model to undergo and skin graft and sending Muhktar to hospital, where she was put into an induced coma, according to the Evening Standard.
