The body of a murdered teenager was found in the back of a car in an apparent 'staged car crash' on Sunday morning.

Now it's been revealed that Megan Bannister, 16, had told close friends that she had a date with a 'man in his late 20s' on the Saturday evening.

Her corpse was found in the back of a black Vauxhall Astra at Enderby, Leics after she reportedly arranged to meet him. She told her mum she was staying with a friend.

Police are currently attempting to work out whether or not Megan's body was being moved when the crash took place, or if the crash was staged to make it seem like Megan had died during the collision.

The men in the car escaped with minor injuries, however the motorbike rider was left fighting for his life.

Jason Burder, 28, and Adam King, 27, are both currently being questioned by police after being arrested on suspicion of murder. Both their homes have been raided.

Her family have released the following statement: "Megan was our beautiful, talented, loving daughter and sister, and our hearts have been utterly broken by her death.

"The thought of life without Megan is impossible to imagine, and we cannot adequately express in words the sense of numbness and overwhelming grief we feel at her loss."

They continued: "She was bright, clever, and a responsible person who loved her family and her many friends. She had a strong self-will and had set her heart on training to becoming a midwife. Knowing how confident and determined she was, we have no doubt she would have realised that dream.

"As a family, we are doing our best to support one another at this harrowing time, and would respectfully ask that we are left alone to grieve in private without intrusion."

Police say that Megan's initial post-mortem examination was inconclusive and further tests are being conducted to find out exactly how she died.

A force spokesman said her death is not believed to have been the result of a road traffic collision.
