The Government Allegedly Wants To 'Make A List' Of Everyone Who Watches Porn

The Government Allegedly Wants To 'Make A List' Of Everyone Who Watches Porn

Over the last year or so, we've seen more and more things about monitoring porn and banning it altogether.

Now, in the latest reported rumour, the UK government allegedly wants to 'make a list' of every person in the UK who watches porn. I'm not sure whether they realise this yet or not, but that'd be a mightily long list.

According to Digital privacy campaigners Open Rights Group, this has been proposed in order to stop minors accessing adult content on the Internet - which means lads under the age of 18 won't be able to talk to their mates about True Anal Stories #22 at lunchtime in school.

"We believe the aim of restricting children's access to inappropriate material is a reasonable one," the group said in a written submission to the committee overseeing the bill this month. "New age verification systems will enable the collection of data about people accessing pornographic websites, potentially across different providers or websites."

If this alleged proposition is true, every porn website will require a block on it that requires users to sign in, proving their age. There's no information as to how this will be achieved, but young lads have been working their way around parental filters for years - if anything this is just a bit of a challenge.

The privacy campaigners are worried that people's data being stored in a 'list' may cause some 'Ashley Madison-style leaks'.

"The bill does not contain provisions to secure the privacy and anonymity of users of pornographic sites. These must be included in the bill, not merely in guidance issued by the age verification regulator," the group wrote, according to Metro.

A porn blacklist. Can you imagine?
