Security Guard Finds Hidden Camera In Disabled Toilets

Be on the lookout.

Given that CCTV is pretty much everywhere nowadays, a lot of people have the very understandable fear that they're being watched, wherever they are or whatever they do.

Obviously having security cameras in certain places is a must, such as in shops, town centres and so on. However the last place you would ever want to be filmed is in a toilet.

We don't ever expect that cameras would be in public restrooms, but that doesn't stop us having a check now and again, just in case. But recent revelations will leave you thoroughly checking every toilet you go into - or choosing not to go in any at all.

An investigation is reportedly being launched after a security guard found a small device in a disabled toilet in a Lidl at the Broadway Shopping Centre in Maidstone.

Adedeji Adebanwo was checking the facilities when he found the small camera, which had been disguised as an air freshener. Adebanwo called police immediately and inspected the device closely, finding it had a USB and memory card slot.

"I went to use the toilet myself and I noticed what looked like an air freshener, which was strange," Adebanwo told Kent Online. "Anything like that has to be approved by me and we don't have air fresheners. It isn't something we would have. A customer using the toilet would have had no idea that it was a camera.

"I find it disgusting. We have a lot of public toilets in Maidstone and everybody needs to check them."

Obviously, if you're dying for the loo, the last thing you want to have to do is check around to see if you're being watched. But in all honesty the risk of having an accident is preferable to the thought of someone perving on you as you do your business.

The devices aren't too hard to get hold of, either - Metro reports that they can be bought online for £10, with better models on offer for higher prices too.

"Straight away when I saw it I knew it was a hidden camera. Both adults and children use that toilet. It's sick," the security guard continued.

"If they are in the toilets at this shopping centre then you don't know where else they are being put."

It goes without saying, but if you spot one of these, phone the police immediately.
