$1.2 Million Bad Beat Jackpot Hits And Everyone Began To Party

Not a bad day at the office.

Those who regularly dabble in the art of poker know all the ins and outs of the game, especially the euphoria when a jackpot hits.

This past week in Montreal, at the Playground Poker Club, two players split a 'bad beat' jackpot win of $1,210,989 (£938,529), triggering a party for the players around the table.

A bad beat occurs when a player loses, despite holding a considerably strong hand. A bad beat jackpot, meanwhile, is a prize issued in some poker games when a bad beat comes up.

On this occasion, according to Poker News, a number of players took home the spoils, after Shane Galle beat Elphege Delarosbil at a $1/2 no-limit hold'em table, by rivering a straight flush against his opponent's quad jacks.

As the loser, Delarosbil actually left the table with the most in his pocket, taking away $460,149 (£356,620). Galle on the other hand walked away a bit worse, but still had his wallet bursting at the seams with a tidy $230,088 (£178,320).

Not only that, but the other players at the table - who'd folded prior to the pair's hands - left with $32,870 (£25,474). Not a bad day out that, is it? But the real lucky fuckers were the ones who were simply sat in the poker room at the time the jackpot hit, as they received $1,224 (£949) as part of a promotion, Poker News reports.

The jackpot reportedly hit at 5:20p.m, so everyone predictably had a very good night out after.

Even the most inexperienced of poker players knows what they're after, of course.

A flush, or a straight flush will get you places, as will a four-of-a-kind, sometimes known as a quad. Or 'two pair', if you're Del Boy...

The Playground Poker Club' bad beat jackpot is apparently progressive and starts at $250,000 (£193,786). To qualify you'll need a hand of quad aces, but this goes down every three weeks to a minimum losing hand of quad eights.

According to the establishment, the qualifying hand had reached its minimum for several weeks, which meant the jackpot prize had continued growing from $250,000 until it finally hit on Thursday, says Poker News.
