When Playboy announced that February 2016's issue would be the last to feature full-frontal nudity it was a big change for the magazine.

Hugh Hefner's publication was noted for having pioneered that style of content back in the 1950s and '60s and it was thought to have had a strong impact on the 'sexual revolution'.

Pamela Anderson featured on the cover of the last ever nude Playboy mag, before March of this year saw the beginning of the less explicit material. CEO Scott Flanders had conceded that the print publication couldn't compete with the scores of porn across the internet.

Now, Playboy's mega famous owner, the silver-haired Hugh, is stepping down as Creative Officer, with his son, Cooper, set to replace him. The New York Post reported that the incoming head honcho isn't best pleased about the move away from as nature intended, and there's a suggestion that he may bring it back.

"There has been no change of heart, and I continue to be well aware of what has made Playboy so remarkably special," a spokesperson said on behalf of Cooper.

The 25-year-old also said that certain areas in the Playboy franchise can't and won't be changed, but there may be a certain 'formula' that alters.

He told Media Ink: "Some aspects of the brand won't alter, as there have been a number of successful creative and business pivots over the last few years that are worthy of celebration.

"However, as we close in on our 64th year as an organization, I can assure you certain aspects of our formula will change. We are currently implementing a creative strategy for the brand moving forward. Let's just say, 2017 will be a big year for our rabbit."

Long gone are the days of passing adult mags between groups of friends, each keeping them for a few days a week; the internet is now king. That being said, it is a huge part of Playboy's legacy.
