A terrorist attack shocked the UK last night when a van crashed into pedestrians on London Bridge before another incident in which attackers went from bar to bar stabbing people around Borough Market.

Witnesses reported seeing the van, which was travelling at around 50mph, mounting the kerb and knocking into people.

In times like these, many people look for a bit of hope or humour to get them through the tough reality.

One unlikely man has become the figure of 'London spirit' after being snapped running away from the attack while holding his pint.

The Tweet has gone viral with over 7,000 re-Tweets and 19k likes at the time of writing.

Some people have criticised the man, but others leapt to his defence.

In the incident, the van continued on towards the Borough Market, where the suspects are reported to have got out and started stabbing people. Witnesses said the attackers were slashing at people at random, while terrified members of the public hid under tables and in basements.

A number of gun shots were then reported in the area, which was later confirmed as police officers shooting dead the suspects.

A stabbing in Vauxhall, which happened around the same time as the attacks, is not connected to the other incidents.

Seven people have been confirmed dead in the attack. Dozens more were injured, with the London Ambulance Service saying it had taken at least 48 people to six different hospitals, and a number of 'walking wounded' were treated at a local hotel by paramedics.

According to the Mirror, one police officer is believed to have been injured in the attack.

None of the victims have been named yet.

The three suspected attackers have all been shot dead by police, who arrived at the scene within eight minutes.

The suspects were believed to have been wearing fake suicide vests.

Police have now said they believe the incident is under control, and believe they've caught all the attackers.

The investigation is being looked after by the Counter Terrorism Command.
