Man Sues Date For $17.31 Because She Was Texting During A Movie

Wait... what?!

Dating's hard. These days, it's generally acceptable to meet people on dating apps. Internet dating used to have quite a bit of a stigma, but it's completely turned around. No one cares if you're on Tinder.

The only issue with online dating is that people can be wildly different in person. I'm not just talking about how they look either.

You could get on like a house on fire through the medium of messaging, but once you're in front of that person, everything can change.

This guy went on a date with a woman (who doesn't want to be named - you'll understand why in a minute), and got really pissed off when she was texting throughout the 3-D showing of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that he'd paid for.

Brandon Vezmar, from Texas, called her out on it and she promptly left. He then decided to let her know that he was going to sue her for $17.31. No, seriously.

He's filed a petition in small claims court in Travis County.

This man, who is unbelievably 37 years old, contacted pretty much every member of her family in an attempt to get in touch with her.

So what exactly happened? We need to get to the bottom of this.

Speaking to the Austin American-Statesman, the man-baby said: "It was kind of a first date from hell."

He claims that around 15 minutes into the movie, his date started texting on her phone. He added: "This is like one of my biggest pet peeves."

In the case filed at small claims, Vezmar said his date "activated her phone at least 10-20 times in 15 minutes to read and send text messages."

He apparently asked her to stop, but she said no. He then suggested that she should go outside, so she left and never came back.

Vezmar is especially pissed off that she drove off in her car, which left him without a ride home.

He claims he texted her a few days later asking for the price of the ticket but she refused to pay it.

He wrote: "*****, your behaviour Saturday was not only rude, but it cost me money. I want to you compensate me for the $17 movie ticket and the $4 pizza. Will you do this or to I have to pursue the money in small claims court?

"I can file online from my laptop, and I'm willing to do so. Your behaviour was wildly out of line, and I'm happy to pursue putting you on the books for it."

She replied: "Are you serious? My best friend needed me right away and you said my phone was driving you crazy then I felt so uncomfortable.

"I can't believe you would take it as far as going to court. This is insane."

Side note: if you offer to pay for someone else to get food, or go out, or you buy them a drink... that's nice. It's sweet. But don't then turn around later and demand the money back. It's not cool.

Would you buy your mate a pizza and then demand the cash back later if he was texting through a movie? No.

This guy is so spiteful and bitter, it's actually embarrassing to read.

The woman explained: "I had my phone low and I wasn't bothering anybody.

"It wasn't like constant texting."

She said she was texting a friend, who was having a fight with her boyfriend.

Speaking to KVUE, she explained: "I did have a very brief date with Brandon, that I chose to end prematurely. His behavior made me extremely uncomfortable, and I felt I needed to remove myself from the situation for my own safety.

"I feel sorry that I hurt his feelings badly enough that he felt he needed to commit so much time and effort into seeking revenge. I hope one day he can move past this and find peace in his life."

Now, the woman plans to file a protective order against Vezmar for contacting her little sister through Facebook to get the money for the movie ticket.

According to his petition, her texting was a 'direct violation' of the cinema's policy, 'adversely' affecting Vezmar's viewing experience and the rest of the theatre.

"While damages sought are modest, the principle is important as defendant's behavior is a threat to civilized society," the petition concluded.

Personally, I think that if anyone feels uncomfortable while on a date, they should feel free to leave. Yeah, I understand that texting during a movie isn't cool. But pretending to be nice, paying for someone else's cinema ticket and then demanding the money back later when the date didn't go the way you wanted? That should be banned. Just go halves in the future.
