Passengers On Board Plane Watched Engine Fall Apart Mid-Flight

Terrifying.

When flying I think we can all agree that our biggest fear is being sat in front of a kicking and screaming infant.

The noise they make, combined with them kicking and hitting the back of your seat is the last thing you need during a flight, and from past experience, I know that it can actually ruin a whole fucking holiday.

The second most feared thing when flying is engine failure, which will subsequently bring the plane down. It's not quite as scary as sitting in front of a toddler, but it's close.

Passengers on board a Southwest Airlines flight experienced a problem with one of the plane's engines, as it began to lose parts mid-flight.

A passenger noticed the rather bare-looking engine when they looked out of the window, which is the last thing you want to see when eating your in-flight meal.

It's been reported that the plane's horizontal tail stabiliser, fuselage, winglet, and front edge of the wing were also damaged.

The plane was flying from New Orleans to Orlando, but had to make an emergency landing. Thankfully no passengers or crew members were injured.

"We heard a loud boom at about 10,000 feet," Stephanie Miller, a first time flyer, told ABC News. "Sounded like an 18 wheeler tire blowing and we started smelling smoke."

The plane touched down in Pensacola, Florida yesterday morning, with people applauding the pilot's skill to land the damaged craft.

Despite a Southwest Airlines spokesperson claiming that it wasn't an explosion, the National Transportation Safety Board have began an investigation to find out exactly what happened.
