Greg Davies Recalls When He Got Drunk As A Teacher On A School Trip

Greg Davies Recalls When He Got Drunk As A Teacher On A School Trip

It's not just students who get up to no good.

School trips were always quite fun. It didn't matter if it was a history trip to some run down castle in the Midlands, there were always ways to make it a laugh.

One thing that they always lacked, however, was the lack of drink. It was never really on the cards, but we all at some point uttered the words: "wish we could have a bevy."

But, if you can't get your hands on a pint, the last thing you expect is your teacher to have one. Personally I did witness a teacher pissed out of his head during a trip to Chester Zoo, which meant we didn't have to explain why we were half-cut, too. So, y'know.

Greg Davies, who played one of Britain's favourite fictional teachers - Mr. Gilbert in the Inbetweeners - used to be a teacher in real life, too.

For 13 years he taught English and Drama at Langleywood School, Orleans Park School and Sandhurst School. He speaks candidly about his past career quite often, saying that it's a bit bittersweet, given that it can be a laugh, but that most secondary school kids are bellends.

But, as a former teacher, he has a whole host of stories, ones that obviously pop up when he appears on shows like Graham Norton's.

The comedian sat down with Anthony Joshua, Rachel Weisz, Martin Freeman and the host, who all had a go on a punching machine, and he recalled the time he went to Paris on a school trip.

He makes sure it's clear that when he started teaching he was 21-years-old, and despite the stoney-faced act he had to put on in front of pupils, he still got up to mischief.

He explained to Norton that it was "frankly amoral" that he and his two early-twenty-something colleagues were left in charge of a bus load of kids. He provided evidence for his words, too, when he revealed how drunk they were while giving some kids a telling off...

Doesn't seem all that bad, being a teacher, does it? Just a shame that there's all that other bollocks in between.

Still, it's pretty cool that someone's old teacher is now sitting on famous TV couches talking about how irresponsible he was and punching kebab shop style boxing machines.

Davies covered himself in a bit of glory as he stepped up to the machine following The Mummy star Rachel Weisz and The Hobbit star Martin Freeman, demolishing the previous pair's score with 632.

All three guests seemed pretty pleased with themselves, that is until world heavyweight champion boxer AJ stepped onto the machine, annihilating the top score recording 848.
