The wife of a Spanish matador who was gored to death by a bull has spoken out about the tragedy.

Victor Barrio, 29, was killed after an 87-stone bull punctured his lung and severed an aorta during the bullfight in Teruel, Aragon, in eastern Spain. He became the first bullfighter to be killed during an event this century.

His wife, Raquel Sanz, 32, watched on from the crowd, along with friends and family, as the horror unfolded.

Taking to Twitter, she said: "Thanks to everyone. I cannot reply to you, I have no words. My life has gone, I have no strength, although I have a lot of thanks.

"How I would love to believe that there is glory for all those who lose their lives on the horns of bulls.

"If that is not the case, then rest in peace wherever you are and us poets will make sure you become immortal."

The matador was taken to hospital following the incident but he was already in cardiac arrest by the time he arrived.

A doctors report claimed Barrio was gored in the right chest and, despite undergoing immediate resuscitation and intubation, his life could not be saved.

You can see footage of what happened below however, it is extremely graphic.

Maybe this will be enough to end this extremely dangerous tradition.
