Well in, LAD.

Nowadays it's quite hard to be original when it comes to proposals. In fact, it's become such a thing to be so extravagant with asking someone to marry you that doing it at home while watching The Chase is probably the most unique you can get.

That might be the easy way out, of course, but your other half probably won't see it coming, so.

This guy's missus certainly didn't see his proposal coming, as, technically, she had already accepted his engagement ring a year earlier.

Terry was all for the idea of truly surprising his girlfriend Anna when it came to popping the question, and he was bang into the idea of doing a wood carving.

Therefore the Australian combined the two things he wanted to do by carving a wooden necklace and then putting an engagement ring inside a secret compartment.

"I had always loved the idea of giving someone a gift where they didn't know its true value," Terry told Metro.

He gave the necklace to Anna on their one year anniversary and she was none the wiser to the ring inside. She'd wear it every day, though Terry was a bit concerned she might discover its secret.

"There were some occasions where I was really worried," he said. "At one point, I thought she was going to trade it with a blacksmith at a market (the blacksmith loved the necklace, and she loved the blacksmith's work) but luckily I didn't need to crash tackle her.

"My biggest moment of panic was when we went through airport security the first time.

"I hadn't thought about the fact that she might be asked to put it through the X-Ray, which could have very quickly turned into an airport security proposal!"

He got away with it, however, and a year and a half later it was time to reveal the ring and get down on one knee.

The pair travelled to Scotland, to a place called Smoo Cave, where they'd always wanted to go. He sneakily took the necklace away from Anna so he could take some pictures of it.

However, he left his camera on a timer in view of them both, then preceded to break open the wooden carving, asking her to marry him.

"She stood there dazed for a second, trying to work out what was going on, and then it dawned and she said 'yes'," he told Metro. "After she calmed down she suddenly stopped moving, stared at me and said 'Wait... it's been in there the entire time?! I could have lost it you fucking idiot!'

"She was quite a hilarious mix of happy and angry!"

He's done very well here.
