A 'killer clown' has reportedly died after putting on a costume to scare locals in Cambodia.

He was allegedly chased into a jungle before standing on a landmine.

The man's injuries were deemed so severe that a formal identification is not possible. However, it is believed to be a 25-year-old student who had travelled to Samraong in northwestern Cambodia from the US to visit relatives.

The Times of Cambodia reported that a police captain said: "A group of men came out of their houses and gave chase to the man wearing the mask.

"They didn't want to hurt him, but they wanted to find out who it was and make him apologise to the people he'd scared."

It is believed that once he ran into the jungle, locals shouted warnings regarding landmines in the area, but he continued running. According to The Mirror, mines are a real issue in the country.
