Watching Jaws leaves a lot of us wary of having a great white shark chewing your balls of in the sea. But when you compare it to a thresher shark, Jaws may as well be Finding Nemo.
Look at this fucking thing.

It was discovered by Martin Stehlik, visiting Whangarei from the Czech Republic, while he was taking a mooch on the beach with his uncle George Plesky.
"It was just so strange and we'd never seen anything like it before, with its long tail and it's big, black eyes." Plesky said. "It was very unusual. Martin thought it might be a shark that isn't seen here often. He's going to go away with some very good memories of his time here."
Department of Conservation shark expert Clinton Duffy confirmed the species when he was shown the images.

He said "They're quite common but rarely seen due to their offshore habits. The feed on small schooling fishes and squid. Very little is known of the species' biology in New Zealand. New Zealand game fishers hold most, if not all of the world records for this species."
Bigeye thresher sharks are found in tropical and warm temperate waters. Aptly named, their name comes from large eyes which are adapted for hunting in low light conditions.
