Aldi and Greggs are battling it out to have the best sausage and bean melt after the budget retailer introduced a rival pastry - for a quarter of the price.

It's Britain's flakey favourite and one of Greggs' bestsellers, but now Aldi has introduced some serious competition to the sausage and bean melt market.

For 42p a piece, the budget supermarket's version is almost a quarter of the price of a Greggs one (£1.50 each). They come in packs of two for 85p and are in store now.

The mighty Sausage and Bean Melt isn't the only new addition to Aldi's fakeaway pastries. They've also got a cheese & onion bake - again for 85p for two.

The Sausage and Bean Melt is bursting with beans, juicy pork sausages and luscious melted cheese, whilst the veggie Cheese & Onion Bake has delicious sautéed onions mixed with mature cheddar cheese. Our mouths are watering.

Aldi has launched the new product following the success of its Bacon & Cheese Wrap (£1.39), which landed on shelves in October after fans went wild recreating their own versions at home using Aldi ingredients.

This also made a comeback to stores on 8th March after being a firm favourite for Aldi shoppers.

Aldi's dedication to fakeaways

Aldi has taken the fakeaway scene by storm in the last few months. The store has even got a dedicated fakeaway section on its website.

After the success of it's McDonald's Fillet-o-ish alternative, it's recently launched a whole range of McDonald's look-alikes; Big Macs, hash browns and even a box of 12 chicken nuggets with dip have come in store.

Not to mention the Slush Puppie machine on sale for £55 and it's range of highly sought after affordable hanging egg chairs. Ooh and lest we forget it's Little Moons alternative Mochi ice-cream balls too.

With Wendy's set to return to the UK in June, we wonder if Aldi will start selling it's own Baconators? Only time will tell.

But there's one fakeaway which has had the whole nation talking in recent months - and that's the whole Colin versus Cuthbert debacle.

This cake war between Aldi and Marks and Spencer saw poor Cuthbert being put behind bars and has even led people to call on Netflix for a Colin versus Cuthbert documentary. That would get huge views to be fair.
