He suddenly realised his fate was in a stranger's hands.

Comedian John Bishop is set to become Doctor Who's new companion. But he's no stranger to daunting tasks - he once went through with a terrifying skydive for the sake of some good TV.

Back in 2012, he agreed to do a tandem skydive (which is when a professional is strapped to the back of you) for the Sky Max series A League Of Their Own. He's recently relived the hair-raising ordeal.

Having flung himself out of a plane at 14,000 feet, placing his fate in this professional's hands, the comedian's mind started wondering.

"I was strapped to somebody, it was the other guy's responsibility to open the parachute," the thought dawned upon him, said The Mirror.

"I realised I didn't know the guy. I wasn't so sure what he was thinking,"

"On the way down I was going: 'Is everything OK with you [to the professional]?'"

But luckily, the guy responsible for landing them safely wasn't incompetant at his job - or a maniac on a suicide mission - and John and his co-stars, Freddie Flintoff and Jamie Redknapp, made it down completely unscathed.

"The main thing that crosses your mind when you fill out the form and put your next of kin, you think 'that lucky cow is going to get a load of money!'" he joked.

John had another dance with death in July this year, after an animal in the road forced him to swerve off the road and crash his car.

His Range Rover was beaten up pretty badly, according to reports, but thankfully, John came out unharmed.

John, 54, is now trying his hand at acting as Doctor Who's new assistant.

Doctor Who series 13, starring Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill and John Bishop, is set to be released on 31st December 2021.
