Christmas is officially upon us now that John Lewis has unveiled its 2021 Christmas advert.
The ad this year is titled 'Unexpected Guest' and tells the story of a young boy, Nathan, who encounters an alien visitor (Skye) in the woodlands near his home. Skye's ship is broken and while she works on fixing it, she spends some time with Nathan who teaches her about the magic of Christmas. At the end of the advert, Skye's ship is fixed and she can return home. Nathan gives her his Christmas jumper to remember him by and they share a kiss.
Up and coming British singer-songwriter Lola Young sang the soundtrack to the ad. Her cover of 'Together in Electric Dreams' is available to stream now on all major music platforms.
And here's how you can get hold of Nathan's Christmas jumper and other merchandise from this year's ad.
"This year, the story of our advert will be brought to life for customers in our ten Christmas Emporiums," said John Lewis, "where they will be able to get up close to Skye's ship and create and share an interactive gif on social media."
Although it might not be possible to take home Skye's spaceship, you can get your hands on Nathan's Christmas jumper, which lights up and plays a Christmas song. The jumper is available to purchase in-store and online and prices range from £14-£29. The retailer said ten per cent of the profits from this jumper will be split equally between the three charities they support: Give a Little Love, FareShare and Home-Start UK.
Nathan's family can be seen doing up their home with lots of beautiful Christmas decorations - all of which customers can now buy in-store and online. In line with the celestial theme of the advert, John Lewis has launched their 'gemstone forest' collection of Christmas decorations, which are on sale now under their Christmas advert section online and in-store. All of Christmas collections this year are "inspired by great British landscapes," the retailer said.
Nathan also gives Skye a mince pie and there are some other Christmas treats being enjoyed during the ad, so naturally, these will all be available to buy from the retailer.
"All the products featured in the advert are from John Lewis, customers will be able to shop key scenes and make purchases directly from them," said John Lewis.
In addition, the department store has introduced a special AR experience for My John Lewis customers. Through 'Unexpected Guest: The Experience,' they'll be able to gain "exclusive access" to a virtual experience on the app and website and interact with the advert, where there'll also be games and printable toys and prizes for children. The retailer has also hidden iconic characters from past Christmas ads in the game.
