When Narwhal came on our newsfeeds, people were blown away. Here was a dog who had been abandoned in America, left for dead if you will, and all he wanted was some love and affection.
A non-profit animal shelter in Missouri stumbled across the very peculiar dog that captured the world's attention.

This beagle-mix puppy was special because it had a small appendage on the front of its face that resembled a tail. The shelter, called Mac the Pitbull, appropriately named him Narwhal the Little Magical Furry Unicorn because of this adorable feature.
Mac the Pitbull did all the necessary checks to ensure their latest addition was healthy before putting it up for adoption.
However, shelter founder, Rochelle Steffen, has decided to keep him.
Rochelle told the Southeast Missourian: "I had no intention initially of keeping him. I didn't want a puppy. I thought I would end up with another really sad bully case, because they're the most misunderstood. But Narwhal is absolutely, exactly what we needed."

She added: "It's not just a decision from me. The whole rescue cannot fathom him leaving. We all fell in love with him."
While there will be many people kicking themselves for not being able to have Narwhal for themselves, it's nice that he will have a good home where he'll be looked after properly.
When Mac the Pitbull unveiled the dog to the world, it wrote on Facebook: "The million dollar question about Narwhals extra tail on his face. Is it connected and does it wag?"
"The extra tail is not connected to anything and has no real use other than making him the COOLEST PUPPY EVER! Dr. Heuring said there is no real reason at this time for the unicorn tail to be removed (and we all wish it wagged)!! Pretty sure the staff at Cape Small also gushed all over this little nugget!

"The unicorn face tail does not bother Narwhal and he never slows down just like any normal puppy. He seems completely healthy other than some usual puppy worms he got meds for. He is not available for adoption immediately as we want him to grow a bit more and truly make sure the tail doesn't become a bother or problem.
"Right now he is pretty much the most unique amazing example of what we do here and we are so thankful to have the chance to be part of his journey. Thank you everyone for helping us help them!"
The dog attracted thousands of dollars in donations to the shelter when news got round it had saved him from the cold Missouri streets.
