A heartbroken dog stood guard by his sister's body after she was killed by a car until animal control arrived to find him grieving.
The staff from Kingsville Kleberg Health Department Animal Control and Care Center were asked to go out to a rural road in Texas's Kleberg County to retrieve the body of a dog, according to reports in The Sun.
When they got there, they discovered the body of a female dog that had been struck by a car, but next to her was another dog - her brother.

You see, he wouldn't leave her alone and sat there silently grieving for his loss, while the animal control people tried to clean up the road.
An officer from the animal control centre said: "This boy wasn't going to let anyone mess with his sister.
"Our Animal Control Officers had a hard time convincing him everything was going to be all right and they were there to help him."

So, when they finally managed to sort things out, the animal control workers took him in and named him Guardian.
They're currently looking out for him for the next four days, as is required by law, but will then release him for adoption, which has already been scheduled for 8am on May 29.
The centre staff continued: "This call was one of the most heart-wrenching for our staff, but we thought we'd share some behind the scene images of situations they are faced with on a regular basis.

"He is still a little confused about what happened, but at least he is now in a safe place with fresh, cool water and belly full of food,"
Despite this story being a bit different because of the emotive elements of it, the animal control guys are clearly keen to stress the fact that this sort of thing happens to them all the time.
Sad, really.

Guardian is listed officially as a Catahoula Mix - whatever that is - and is thought to be only young, just about six to 12 months old.
The Catahoula Leopard breed of dog is known to be a very diligent and attentive type of watchdog.
On this evidence, it's pretty hard to disagree with that.
The name means 'sacred lake' and has been derived from the Native American language of Choctaw, spoken by the Choctaw people, who historically lived to the east of the Mississippi River valley.
