Beachgoer Baffled After Spotting Bizarre Fish With Teeth On Shore

Well, at least he looks happy to be there...

A bizarre looking fish that appeared to be showing off a full set of teeth left social media users baffled after it washed up on a beach in Queensland, Australia.

A woman took a snap on the unusual-looking creature after coming across while out for a walk earlier this week.

Sharing it on the Noosa Community Notice Board Facebook page, she asked: "Anyone know what kind of fish this is? I found it washed up on the North Shore this morning."

Some Facebook users quickly set about trying to determine what the fish was, while others were too distracted by its appearance.

One person wrote: "Cleaner teeth than mine."

Another joked: "Not sure but can you ask who it's dentist is? Has a lovely set of choppers on it."

While a third posted: "Someone wants their dentures back."

Others made more sensible suggestions but were divided over whether it was a flathead, a stargazer or a stone fish.

Clearing up the matter, Professor Culum Brown, from the Department of Biological Sciences at Macquarie University, told Yahoo News Australia the little guy is a stargazer.

He said: "In New Zealand they call them monkfish.

"But it's not the standard species that we get along the southeast coast.

"This looks more like the larger New Zealand species which is really common around the south island.

"It wouldn't be too unusual for them to show up on the east coast of Australia though."

The woman who took the photo will be pleased she didn't get too close, as stargazers have venomous spines on their backs.

Earlier this year, a fisherman in Florida was shocked after reeling in a fish that had 'human teeth'.

The strange creature was pulled out of a spot near to Melbourne in the US state of Florida, and fisherman Paul Lore was taken aback when he spotted the animal's full set of pearly whites.

The 33-year-old said: "It has a zebra pattern of colouring and the body is more like a snapper-type fish - very compact but meaty.

"The teeth can only be described as human-like teeth, but upon further inspection you'll notice they have rows of these teeth like a shark.

"Most of them have two to three rows with very strong bite power - not enough to take a finger but enough to make you never go near the teeth again."
