A kind-hearted man has rescued a dog in California and nursed her back to health, despite all the odds.

Cora the miniature poodle was found abandoned with two broken legs, a broken back and a shattered pelvis in February 2018.

Zach Skow said the dog was completely immobile, but decided to take her in to prevent her from a painful death.

Despite a vet encouraging him to euthanise the six-year-old pooch, Zack stuck it out and worked hard to get Cora happy again.

Zack said: "She had severely broken front legs, a broken back and a totally shattered pelvis. With those injuries, I would assume she was run over by a car.

"We tried to save the legs with surgery but one of them had a bone infection and had to be amputated and the other one couldn't be fixed and had to be amputated as well.

"She was depressed - it was a shock for her to lose her legs and it was very painful for her to be immobile.

"Now Cora is the rock star of them all."

Zack said with a lot of training, it took Cora around three months before she was able to learn how to get around with just two legs. He initially got her to walk around using a cart attached to her front legs, but now she is confident without it.

Obviously, it's very unusual for a dog to be able to walk with two limbs, and she now resembles a kangaroo by the way she hops around the place. But, judging from her smiling face, it looks like she's enjoying every second.

"Through perseverance and dogged will she learned how to walk on her own," he said. "We gave her space and we let her be - we didn't want to be overly sympathetic and carry her everywhere."

"She has never met a person or a pet that she doesn't want to be best friends with. I think her mission in life is to display gratitude wherever she goes.

"She is the friendliest, happiest dog I've ever met in my life."

Here's hoping she has many more years.
