Dogs Filmed In Blood-Stained Cages At 'German Testing Laboratory'

A new video reportedly filmed inside a German laboratory shows dogs left 'bleeding and dying' after being 'tortured', according to campaigners.

The animal rights activists who released the footage claim that it was filmed secretly at the same lab in Lower Saxony where monkeys were filmed screaming in pain after 'barbaric' tests.

This latest video shows - among other things - beagles lying motionless on the floor in cages with blood smeared on the floor.

Another piece of video shows a long tube inserted down a money's throat before it is force-fed a liquid through it.

We've only included a certain amount of the footage because - trust us - it's pretty horrible.

The heart-breaking footage was shared by animal rights group Cruelty Free International (CFI) as part of an undercover investigation that they conducted alongside another animal welfare group called TOKO Tierschutz into practises at the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology in Mienenbüttel, Neu Wulmstorf.

The release of the videos has sparked a criminal investigation into alleged cruelty and poisoning of animals at the laboratory, which studies toxicity for companies.

The campaigners claim that the laboratory, near Hamburg, should be shut down completely.

CFI said that the animals in the videos had been subjected to 'unlawful suffering' and added that 'very sick dogs were left in an appalling state, subdued, passing blood and left to suffer alone in their cages'.

They claim the dogs are part of an experiment to see how toxic certain substances could be for humans, and to establish a safe dosage that people could take.

For the dogs, the experiments allegedly caused bleeding, vomiting, organ failure, breathing problems and - in some cases - death.

The group added: "Cats [were] each subjected to 13 blood samples taken over 10 hours. They struggle and cry out, [and are] left with sores on their legs."

The animal campaigners say they managed to get an activist onto the staff at the lab between December 2018 and March 2019.

They said: "In this laboratory, poisoning experiments are carried out on dogs, cats, monkeys and rabbits.

"Our investigation with SOKO Tierschutz at Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology (LPT) has shed light on the horrors animals face behind closed laboratory doors.

"Dogs left bleeding and dying, monkeys routinely abused, all in the name of regulatory testing.

"We believe the scale of this abuse and the unimaginable suffering of cats, dogs and monkeys is unlawful. Yet this is the reality of laboratory life for animals, and it cannot continue a moment longer."

Prosecutors have opened a preliminary investigation into the animal cruelty allegations at the facility and a local veterinary authority has taken action regarding the size of the cages that animals are kept in.

CFI said the actions, while welcome, are 'too little, too late'.
