Having your pup put down is one of the worst things imaginable for a dog owner - but usually, it is in the best interests of the animal to have it done.
For one couple, however, that wasn't the case - their dog was put down by the local animal shelter despite being in perfect health.
Tony and Jennifer Wang of Peoria, Illinois took their dog Moses into the animal shelter after he had bitten a maintenance worker in order for him to be tested for rabies - standard procedure for dogs that have attacked members of the public.

While he was in the Tazewell County Animal Control, however, Moses was accidentally euthanised after being confused with another dog, to the devastation of his owners.
"They said that they would like to keep him for 10 days under quarantine to make sure that everything was safe with him," said Jennifer.
"If he needed to be euthanized which he wasn't, he deserved to be with his family. We should've been the last face he seen, instead of a stranger poking him with a stick."
Tony later wrote on Facebook: "On Thursday before I went to work, I packed two big cookies and a Moses' favorite greenie so I could give them to him during my visit.

"At around 9:30 a.m, I received a call from my wife screaming and crying that Moses was dead.
"My wife is four months pregnant and threw herself on the concrete floor when she saw Moses' lifeless body.
"We had to explain to our six-year-old son that the puppy he grew up with would not be coming back instead Moses was going to Heaven. Our son was heart broken and confused.
"He cried himself to sleep and said he wanted to go to Heaven so he could see Moses."

The animal shelter released a statement apologising for the incident that read: "On August 7th, Tazewell County Animal Control mistakenly euthanized a dog that was being held in our facility on a 10-day bite quarantine.
"Tazewell County truly regrets this error. Tazewell County will be reviewing policies and procedures to prevent any such occurrence from happening in the future."
The Wangs are now reportedly considering legal action against Tazewell County Animal Shelter.
"One man's mistake is destroying my family," wrote Tony. "Only because he did not want to double check, only because he did not want to wait."
