While sharks aren't the human chasing predators they're often made out to be, when attacks do occur they are sadly usually very severe.
This footage here courtesy of 9News Perth, Australia shows a giant great white shark being pulled out the water after it attacked a surfer.
Ben Gerring, 29, was attacked at Falcon Beach, a popular surfing spot in Mandurah, south of Perth, Australia by the 14ft shark.
According to The Mirror, Ben's leg was bitten off in the horrific attack , which took place on the beach on Tuesday afternoon.

The footage shows the great white shark being hooked on a baited drum line by authorities on Wednesday afternoon.
The shark later died on the drum line.

Speaking on the attack, Ben's friend Brian Williams told local media at the time of the incident: "Next thing all hell broke loose and they were trying to bring him in.
"His board was broken in half."
Ben remains in critical condition.
