Incredible photographs caught the moment a great white shark cleared 15ft into the air in what is thought to be a record-breaking breach.

Shark expert Chris Fallows travelled to Seal Island in South Africa as part of Discovery Channel's Shark Week.

Air Jaws: Ultimate Breach, brought together various experts to try and get the best possible snap of a shark breach - with one opting to use drone technology and another attempting to get a photo at night.

However, it was the images caught by Fallows, who used a tow camera, that really caught viewers' attention.

Fallows said: "They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, that picture is worth a thousand breaches. I can't believe how high it came out, it was just perfect... a photo you dream of.

"This has to be the ultimate air jaws breach."

Air Jaws: Ultimate Breach director Jeff Kurr told TV Insider: "Chris got some unbelievable breaches. In fact, one of the breaches is probably the best he's ever filmed."

Speaking about the show, which launched back in 2001, Kurr added: "More than any other Air Jaws we've done, this one has a really strong conservation message: We have to do something to protect these great white sharks because they are on the brink of annihilation."

Watching at home viewers were quick to praise those involved for capturing the shots, with one person posting: "Another awesome drone breach shot!"

Another joked: "Watching Air Jaws on Discovery rating the breaches like an Olympic judge."

A third posted: "Every time a shark breaches, I'm just like WOW! It never gets old."

Earlier on Shark Week, Tyson vs Jaws saw boxing legend Mike Tyson immobilise a shark. Yeah, that happened.

The 54-year-old former heavyweight champ took on a challenge which ended with him diving into the ocean, surrounded by sharks, before inducing tonic immobility - a harmless and temporary state of inactivity.

Before the challenge, Tyson admitted that he was apprehensive.

He told the camera: "Why am I doing this? What the f*** am I doing? I'm stupid to do this."

When asked how he's feeling he admitted: "Scared to death."

Shark Week. continues until 16 August on Discovery Channel.
