A whole army of people have committed themselves to helping find two dogs that have been missing since before Christmas.

Buster the pug and his best friend, Luna the husky, have been missing for a good while now, leading some people to believe that they have been stolen.

They've been gone for nearly five weeks now, but hundreds of people have joined in to help search for the missing doggos.

The dogs' owner, Alex Walton, has said that her whole family - including her three daughters - are absolutely distraught that their pets are gone.

They have encouraged the thief - if indeed there is one - or anyone with any information to 'do the right thing' in order to reunite the dogs with their family.

Back on 5 December, the pair managed to get out of the garden of their house in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester.

They've only been seen once in the time since then. The two best friends were walking together on Hartshead Pike - about an hour's walk away from where they disappeared from.

A group called 'Find Buster and Luna' has been set up on Facebook with the intention of casting as large a net as possible in the hope that the pair will show up. So far more than 1,500 members have joined up.

On top of this, volunteers have been treading the pavements putting up banners and posters, as well as searching high and low for Luna and Buster.

Alex has said that although the dogs are micro-chipped, they still fear that they have been stolen.

She told the Manchester Evening News: "It's heart-breaking,

"It feels like you've lost one of your kids - they are part of our family.

"I don't know how I'm coping to be honest, seeing the kids so upset.

"My youngest Darcie, she's three, she kept asking if they were going to be back for Christmas. I kept telling her that Santa had borrowed them because he needed their help.

"We are all so upset."

The animals broke out as a result of a bungee cord that is usually wrapped around the gate not being in place.

Alex, who lives with her three daughters are her partner Chris Taylor, added: "We believe they got out themselves and ran off because there were workmen in the road.

"They've never been to Hartshead Pike before, but they were seen together, which is why we know it was them.

"If anyone does have them, please, do the right thing for the kids. Please bring them back."

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that a potential theft has been reported.
