Iceland Is Donating All Profits From Penguin Bars To Chester Zoo

If you p-p-p-pick up a Penguin, the p-p-p-profits go to a good cause

After announcing that it has adopted all of the Humboldt penguins that live at Chester Zoo in an attempt to bolster support for the ailing attraction, Iceland - again, not the country - has announced that it's donating all profits from sales of McVitie's Penguin Bars to the cause, too.

That means that shoppers can p-p-p-pick up a Penguin while also helping to support Britain's largest - and one of the best loved - zoos through the difficult times presented by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

This offer will continue all throughout next week, and will apply to every pack of Penguin chocolate bars bought both online and in their stores.

The packs start at £1 for seven bars, but if you're feeling really charitable - and hungry - you can buy a bumper 21-pack for £2.

Actually, that's just a quid extra for three times as many bars. Get stuck into that!

Announcing the news, Iceland Foods' Managing Director Richard Walker said: "We're delighted to support Chester Zoo during this difficult time - a cherished British attraction and one of my personal childhood favourites.

"Thankfully, the government is allowing zoos to open from 15 June, so we hope the hardest times are now behind Chester Zoo, but the McVitie's Penguin biscuit profit donation will hopefully lend extra support needed to weather this difficult period.

Iceland

"We're so proud of everyone at Iceland who made this a possibility and we're especially pleased to hear about staff at our regional stores who were inspired to make their own donations and adopt animals of their own."

If you want to support Chester Zoo in your own way, you can find out how to donate and show your support over at the zoo's website.

Speaking after Iceland announced it was adopting all of the penguins, Walker had said: "We were all saddened to hear of Chester Zoo's recent struggles - it's the heart of the local community in Chester and a much loved family favourite.

"I remember visiting the zoo as a child and my own kids love going there.

"We're proud to be able to lend them our support both through the adoption of the Humboldt penguins on behalf of our colleagues, and by lobbying in support of zoos being allowed to reopen soon.

"The conservation work undertaken by the Zoo is vital and along with the park itself reopening it is incredibly important that this amazing work is able to continue."
