Man Takes Close-Up Photo Of Wasps Committing 'X-Rated Act'

The animal kingdom is a magical place, made up of a seemingly endless variety of creatures, all of which have different ways of showing their affection for one another.

And recently, a man got quite the shock when he walked past a book shop and spotted a pair of wasps in a fairly X-rated position.

Phil Norris was walking along the Promenade in Cheltenham when he came across the compromising situation.

In a photo shared on social media, the two wasps can be seen tussling with one another in a semi-69 kind of manoeuvre.

Sharing the saucy snap, Phil wrote: "Really not sure what these wasps are up to outside Waterstones in Cheltenham."

Since the tweet was shared, people have piled into the comments to offer their thoughts on what is actually going on in the photo.

One user said: "Omg Phil, needs a graphic warning on that."

Making reference to a local dogging spot, another joked: "A little intimate, thought that happened up Shab Hill!"

While a third quipped: "Searching for a dropped takeaway."

But thankfully, there was a scientist on hand to help Phil.

After being tagged in the post, Gloucestershire University's Adam Hart, an entomologist and the university's Professor of Science Communication, said: "They are mating."

Phill did well to capture the intimate moment, considering the fact that the critters only get down to it once a year.

And as is often the case, it's not quite the happy-ever-after story you'd hope for, with female going off to hibernate for winter once it's over, and the male dying.

In the spring, the female wasp will start her own colony after laying her eggs in a cell-like pod. This colony will be near to the mating area, so expect to see a lot of wasps around the Prom next year.

But these aren't the only animals to have been involved in the middle of a romp of late.

Sex Education fans were stunned recently when one of the character's pets suffered an untimely death during one racy scene.

The scene in question came in the third episode, in which Cynthia (Lisa Palfrey) and Jeffrey's (Joe Wilkinson) cat Jonathan meets a grim end, after unfortunately stumbling upon the pair in bed.

As things heat up between the couple, the shaking of their caravan leads to a microwave becoming dislodged before rather gruesomely crushing Jonathan below.

Poor guy.
