A man managed to meet the woman of his dreams on a Facebook fan page for cats - and went on to travel 4,000 miles to meet her.

Adam Lawrence, 28, posted a photo of himself posing with his friend's pet cat, Doggy, which received 6,500 likes and more than 150 comments - one of which being a huge compliment from a fellow animal lover who lives in America.

Apparently the stranger thought both the cat and the human were 'cute', and commented on the picture to say so.

The picture that started it all.

Adam, a graphic design graduate from London, then messaged 25-year-old Anna Hosey, and the two began to chat daily for several weeks.

After a fortnight of FaceTime calls, Adam decided to take the plunge and booked a flight to meet her in person - which was a particularly bold move, given that it meant travelling to Chicago in the United States.

Thankfully, the whole thing went so well that Anna's already planning to return the favour by flying across the pond herself.

After returning home to the UK in 15 December, Adam said: "I never thought I'd be the kind of guy to travel 4,000 miles to meet someone I met on Facebook, but I don't regret it at all.

"It was the first time I ever posted in the group but I have always loved cats and when I saw my friend's fluffy cat I couldn't resist.

"Anna commented, saying, 'Both very very cute,' and after viewing her profile, I thought, 'I'll just send her a message.'

"We went on to speak every day on Facebook and we really got on.

"After two weeks, she suggested I go to visit her in the States.

"I don't think she believed I would, so I did as I thought, 'What have I got to lose?'

"I thought, 'If it goes wrong, at least I am ticking another country off the list.'

"Thankfully had the best time and it was like we had known each other forever.

"I can't wait to show Anna all the sights that make London, London."

The pair 'hit it off' immediately - so much so, in fact, that Anna has since booked her first international trip to London in February.

Anna, a hairdresser, said: "When I initially proposed the idea of him coming to Chicago, I hoped he would, but I didn't believe he would.

"But then he showed me the itinerary, I was like, 'Oh, it's happening,' and then every phone call was so exciting because we were counting down the days.

"I was a little bit wary but I was willing to take the small risk and I am so glad I did because we had the best time.

"The whole thing has been surreal but amazing - it wasn't awkward at all when I picked him up from the airport.

"I felt nervous on the way but as soon as he got in the car they disappeared; it is crazy how we are so in tune with each other.

"We both love cats, music and an adventure!

"He met my friends, parents and most importantly my cat, Kidden and they all loved him.

"My friends were shocked that I have found someone who is as talkative and spontaneous like me.

"I don't believe it will fizzle out because it has already been two months, and we have never not had anything to say."
