Animal Rescue Organisation Trying To Track Down Pigeons With Little Cowboy Hats

There are fears someone used superglue to ensure the hats stayed on

The hunt is on to find a group of pigeons that were spotted in Las Vegas with little cowboy hats attached to their heads.

People are known to dress animals up in all sorts of outfits, usually against their will, but eventually they come off.

The big fear with these pigeons is that someone has used additional means like superglue to ensure these little hats stay on the birds' heads. I mean, realistically, it would be pretty hard for the hats to remain in place on a bird otherwise.

Animal rescue organisation Lofty Hopes is now hoping to find the birds and safely remove the hats.

Lofty Hopes founder Mariah Hillman has told Fox News: "At first, I was like, oh my god that's cute! Then, I was like, wait a minute - how did they get those hats on there?

"Did they glue them? And what does that mean for them? Is it something that's going to impede their flight or attract predators?

"We drove up and down here yesterday for a good two hours just handing out business cards to any location where I saw pigeons and people. If you see these birds, just feed them until I get here. I'm only three miles away and I'll come trap them."

The video of the hat-wearing birds has so far garnered over 1.8 million views, 46,000 shares and over 174,000 likes after it was shared on the Las Vegas Locally Twitter account with the caption: "Someone is putting tiny cowboy hats on Vegas pigeons. There are consequences to legalizing marijuana."

One user commented: "I need the story on this. Why? Do they have a band with tiny instruments? Will they have boots? Is it a Old Town Road promo that got out of hand, someone tell me."

Another saw the more serious side, writing: "How are the hats affixed? Are these wild birds or someone's homing pigeons? I agree this looks funny, but it could be endangering or impairing these animals??"

The birds have been spotted around Las Vegas.

There's definitely a story behind these birds.

Were they a part of some bizarre circus? Were they owners of a cattle ranch in rural Nevada? Were they on the run from the pigeon police and donning some quirky hats to escape capture?

These questions will probably never be answered, but it won't stop us asking them.
