How could you stay mad at that face?

No matter what dogs do, it's hard to stay mad at them for very long - a lesson one owner found when her pet pooch went loose in her kitchen after rolling about in the mud.

Kerry Templeton, Gosport, Hampshire, was horrified when she returned home on Saturday night (3 October) to find her kitchen was covered in mud, as was a rather sheepish Maddie the dog.

But seeing the funny side of it, Kerry posted some snaps of the scene - showing her worktops, walls, washing machine and door now blackened by the dog's escapades - to her social media account.

Sharing the photos, she wrote: "Thought I'd share this with you as it has brought lots of laughter on my private FB page. I can laugh about it now!

Maddie caked the kitchen in mud.

"Saturday night I went out with friends to come home to this.

"I had left the cat flap open (which my dog can fit through) and the torrential rain had turned my garden into a swamp!

"Thank god I closed the kitchen door."

Kerry then added: "I normally only have [the catflap] open when we're home. Just forgot this time. Definitely won't be forgetting in future.

"There were tears in my eyes, but Maddie was looking at me with so much love.

"I was on my own and I was just saying out loud, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.

"I've thoroughly cleaned it from top to bottom twice and I'm still finding splatters here and there.

"It took ages and I did it all again the next day as I'd missed bits."

Since posting the adorably infuriating photos of Maddie and her muddied kitchen, Kerry's post has received over 1,000 comments.

It didn't take too long to get her all cleaned up.

And most couldn't find the strength to be angry with the mucky pup.

One shocked user wrote: "Oh my goodness. I bet you didn't know where to start. Those cute doggy eyes are enough to get anyone out of trouble."

Another joked: "'The cat did it'. Look at that innocent face!"

A third put: "Not one bit missed by the looks of it."

Thankfully, it didn't take long for Kerry to get Maddie cleaned up and back to her fluffy self.
