Police Therapy Dog Caught Stealing Toys From The Station's Christmas Donation Supply

Thankfully the missing toys weren't the work of a Christmas grinch.

A police therapy dog has been caught stealing a bunch of toys from the station's Christmas donation appeal.

Every year before December 25, people donate toys and little items to the less fortunate so that they could have a special day. Franklin Police Department in Massachusetts was gearing up to hand out loads of fun and exciting presents to the Santa Foundation, who will be coordinating the annual toy drive.

But officers noticed that a few toys were going missing here and there.

After a bit of police investigating they discovered that it wasn't the work of a Christmas grinch but that of the station's therapy dog.

The Golden Retriever, called Ben, was found to be picking up some items and taking them into different parts of the station. They even filmed the gorgeous dog walking through the Franklin Police Department building with one of the toys expertly clasped in his mouth.

In a clip that's gone viral, the police department wrote: "We learned an extremely valuable lesson today. When you have a classroom full of toys ready to be shipped off to the Santa Foundation, you should...1. Close the door to the classroom. Or 2. Keep the toys elevated.

"If not, a golden retriever will slowly hoard them throughout the day and bring them back to his lair. Thanks to Officer Cusson for capturing this larceny on camera."

At the end of the day, at least it was a dog that was doing the stealing and not an actual thief because that would be awful so close to Christmas.

Deputy Chief James Mill told Boston 25 News: "We've has several officers that have worked very hard to make sure that some of the kids in town and the community that have needs will have something to open on Christmas.

"When they saw him walking out of the classroom, they were like: 'What is he doing?'

"The facility is locked down so we knew it was pretty simple to figure out it was Ben. When Ben saw the toys, he thought they all belonged to him.

"It was an easy solution. Ben here is now banned from this room. I mean, he's gotten his slobber all over them at this point so the police department has replaced them.

"He has the run of the station and it's amazing. It's amazing. He's like that guy who shows up to the party that everyone loves and seriously, if Ben walks in, it's like a ray of sunshine."

Hopefully the officers at the station get Ben a toy all for himself for Christmas.
