A puppy that was cruelly stolen from its owner's yard has been safely returned home, after footage of the theft in action went viral.

In the video clip, you can see a black Cadillac SUV has pulled over to the home, with two men stood near the fenced-off lawn, looking shiftily at the group of dogs. One of them then leans over and reaches into the dogs' enclosure, picking up a French Mastiff puppy by the scruff of its neck - reportedly causing it to yelp in pain - before heartlessly making off with it in the vehicle.

The puppy, known as Chipper, is just 10 weeks old. HOW COULD YOU?!

Thankfully, though, there's a happy ending to this story, as Chipper's owner, firefighter Matt Ivy, has announced that he has now been reunited with the pupper.

In a series of Facebook posts, Ivy updated concerned social media users with the news they'd been looking out for.

In the first, he wrote: "On my way to hopefully pick up Chipper!!!! Standby for confirmation."

Not long after, Ivy added: "CHIPPER IS BACK HOME!!!!!! (gotta go back to firehouse and finish my shift, will give details of what happened when I can, probably tomorrow).

"AGAIN I CAN NOT THANK EACH AND EVERYONE ONE OF YOU ENOUGH FOR YOUR COMPASSION, PRAYERS, SUPPORT, SHARES, AND HAVING MY BACK WITH THE SILLY TROLLS AND HATERS!!!"

Revealing more about what had happened, Ivy later wrote: "Somebody sold Chipper to a good man that called me and returned him. Sorry it's so short, police have asked me to keep details minimal."

In another post, he divulged even more, explaining: "Kind man that brought me back Chipper is Brian at Omar's Wheel and Tire in Garland, TX. He's the hero and absolutely getting half the reward money. Another man that has been key in the investigation is getting the other half.

"Huge thanks to everyone for donating to these two men that had the utmost integrity here in doing the right thing!"

He added: "I haven't been told if thieves have been caught yet."

Since he shared the CCTV footage of the dognapping taking place online, Ivy's post has been viewed over 7.4 million times and shared over 218,000 times.

He also posted screengrabs from the incident, writing: "2 thugs stealing my 10 week old Dogue de Bordeaux puppy yesterday in Mesquite, TX. Suspects may live in Amarillo or Lubbock, TX. Detectives can't start case until the morning or Tuesday. Any help with looking for ads, shares, tips, ANYTHING is greatly appreciated.

"Fox and NBC have been notified and microchip has been reported stolen and is registered to me."

He was offering a $500 reward for anyone who had information leading to Chipper's safe return, meaning it looks like Brian at Omar's Wheel and Tire will be getting half of that along with another mystery person.

We're just glad Chipper's arrived home safe and sound.
