Rare Images Show Orphaned Fox Raised By Two Scottish Photographers

Amazing photos have been released of an orphaned fox that was raised by two Scottish photographers.

Peter Lewis and Mark Strachan were out with their cameras on the Aberdeenshire coast last summer, when they saw a litter of three fox cubs.

Not thinking much of it, they were shocked to find the mother of the litter dead at the roadside, with the young foxes left to fend for themselves. When they realised two of them had moved on, they decided to take care of the remaining one, naming her Black Paws.

Peter, 55 and Mark, 50, saw the adorable orphaned creature on a regular basis, going out to feed her and even helping her to learn how to hunt by running through the fields with bits of meat on a string.

It got to the point where they felt like her foster parents, as they struck up a strong bond with the growing vixen.

They even used night trail cameras and have documented the vixen playing and eating with them.

Peter, a technician for an oil company, said: "Running through the field with a bit of chicken on a string as she chased after the bait was, well, just out of this world.

"We turned up and used our way of letting her know we were there and she was out like a dog that had been waiting for its master all day.

"We became her foster parents. There was one month I had to rely on Mark to feed her as holidays in the highlands stopped me from getting out seeing her.

"When I saw her again I was not let down as the cub that once looked so vulnerable was blossoming into a very beautiful vixen and she hadn't forgotten me.

"She was bolder than ever coming right up and sat yards from me. This is a wild fox and it amazes me as to how much this she let us into her life, maybe she was relying on us to help her into adulthood."

The kind-hearted men have said that they aren't ending their foster parent journey there, saying that they're planning more trips when the weather improves. Black Paws will be a grown fox next time they see her, and the proud pair will be getting more photos of her.
