A faithful dog trekked for 125 miles through dangerous Russian countryside 'with tears in her eyes' in order to get back to an ungrateful owner who had abandoned her.

The rejected Bullmastiff called 'Maru' suffered wounds to her paws as a result of her unfortunate pilgrimage through wilderness that is also home to wolves and bears.

At the end of it, she was discovered at an industrial estate not far from her home.

Basically, her owner discovered that she was allergic to the one-year-old doggo and packed her off on a train back to Trans-Siberia and towards the kennels at which she was born.

However, the determined dog managed to claw open a train compartment door at a remote station near to Achinsk in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia before the train - bound for Novosibirsk - arrived at its final destination.

Maru had been sent back on a Trans-Siberian train.

Despite the best efforts of train staff, who tried looking for the missing pooch and calling her name on the platform, she managed to make her escape.

The owner of the kennels at which she was bred, Alla Morozova, also shared pleas on social media for information that could have led to her being found.

Amazingly enough, she turned up two and a half days after that, having made an incredible journey.

However, it was all in vain. When she finally managed to get the dog back, Morozova said that the poor pooch seemed 'to have tears in her eyes'.

She also added that Maru was very lucky not to have become dinner for one of the larger predators that inhabit the area through which she travelled.

After a conversation with the train staff, Alla established that the dog had a panic attack when the train stopped and 'jumped on the compartment door, and almost knocked the conductor out of the way'.

She added: "She jumped out like a bullet. When the door opened to the platform, she jumped out into the night, into the taiga (swampy Siberian forest)."

Maru covered 125 miles through wild countryside.

Alla also said that she was amazed at Maru's homing abilities. She said that she is convinced that the dog would have made it back home had it not been for her injuries.

When they discovered her after she was recognised from the social media campaign for her safe return, she was - understandably - extremely tired and struggling with wounds and bleeding on the bottom of her paws

Alla continued: "I'm sure that she was looking for her house. Dogs are very attached to people. She did not run to Novosibirsk - she wanted to go back where she lived."
