Barry Chuckle Died After A Secret Battle With Bone Cancer That Spread To His Lungs

It has been revealed that comedy legend Barry Chuckle died after bone cancer spread to his lungs, following a secret battle with the disease.

Jimmy Patton, 86, told the Sun that the family were 'devastated' and grieving following the loss of their 73-year-old brother Barry.

Jimmy, a retired actor who performed with his real-life 'Chuckle' brothers, Barry and Paul Elliot, and other sibling, Brian Elliot, 83, said that the entire family were 'hurting'.

Speaking from his home in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, Jimmy said: "We are all devastated. Barry had bone cancer which had spread to his lungs.

"He was ill for years, but kept it hidden. We knew about it, but kept it quiet, and all the family are really hurting right now."

According to Jimmy, himself and Brian would star in shows as the Patton brothers from their early teens which is where Barry and Paul got a 'taste' for it.

He added: "They would come and watch me and Brian - and Barry and Paul wanted to be on stage with us."

Jimmy also said that he was 'amazed' to see Barry manage to get through pantomime season last year despite his illness.

Paying tribute, he added: "Barry loved being on stage, he loved being on TV - he loved people in general.

"Barry in real life was just like the character he played on the TV and in theatres."

Jimmy revealed his brother Paul had taken Barry's death 'really hard'.

Announcing the news on Sunday, Barry and Paul Elliott's manager, Phil Dale said: "It is with great sadness that the family announce that Barry passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife Ann and all his family.

"The family would like to express their thanks to the many people who have been fans of the Chuckle Brothers and they know that they will share in part the great, great loss they feel."

Barry and Paul had been working together earlier this year on their latest kids' TV show, Chuckle Time.
