Beth the Bounty hunter - loyal wife of TV's Dog - has faced down a fair few challenges in her time.

But after apprehending countless criminals (and dealing with Dog's daily behaviour) she is about to face her biggest challenge yet.

Beth was diagnosed with throat cancer this week and released a statement to RadarOnline explaining how she intends to combat it.

"As most of you know I've spent a lifetime facing tests and challenges I didn't see coming and certainly never expected," she wrote.

"I've been dealt my share of unexpected blows over the course of my almost 50 years but nothing as serious as the one I heard from my doctors two weeks ago when they uttered those dreaded three words, 'You have cancer'."

The TV star is suffering from a T2 tumour in her throat that will require surgery to remove as it's blocking her breathing. Doctors need to take it out to stop the disease spreading further in her body.

Beth is upbeat though.

"To be certain, I've stared down the devil more than once in my life but I've never faced a real life or death decision. My life has never been easy, and I surely don't expect it to start now," said the mother of four.

"Still, I've never been a victim and I won't let cancer beat me. I realise the road I am about to travel will be rocky, full of unexpected twists and turns. But I know one thing for sure. A bend in the road is not the end of the road."

Beth and Dog became superstars thanks to their TV show, Dog the Bounty Hunter, in which they track down fugitives and criminals on the islands of Hawaii.

They shared every aspect of their lives with the camera, allowing TV crews to see the full extent of their work. While Dog and his team go out chasing the criminals, Beth's role tends to be in the office, where she manages the business.

Beth also directed one more message to her fans:

"I will fight every step of the way," she said.

"My husband and children are counting on me to be there for years to come. I am so very grateful to be surrounded by family and friends who have given me incredible support during this very challenging time."
