Furniture maker Koala has kicked off a new campaign which calls on Australians to tweak the lyrics to iconic Australian song 'Home Among the Gum Trees' with the help of a few local figures, including Moana Hope, Steve Smith and comedian Gen Fricker.
In a video fronted by Fricker, she explained that Koala were asking Aussies to submit their own lyrics to the 1970s classic in order to create an updated 2020 version that makes people feel 'comfortable' and 'reflects the diversity' of modern Australian living, saying classic songs aren't inclusive enough.
"Australian homes have radically changed since "Home Among The Gum Trees" was first written in 1974," the company said in a statement.
"Koala reckons all Australians should feel comfortable at home. But some of our most beloved cultural icons don't always reflect the diversity and reality of modern Aussie life."
They continued: "With help from all Aussies, we want to take it from classic country to a big, banging anthem we can all get behind, whether you live among the gum trees, the flight paths, good cafes or big surf."

Koala's Chief Marketing & Technology Officer Peter Sloterdyk added of the campaign: "Home means different things to different people, and 2020 has highlighted how we continuously transform and adapt the way we live, work and play."
"All over Australia, people are changing, updating, and evolving their view about what 'home' means to them. Koala understands how important it is for us to ensure we reflect all versions of home for every Australian, especially with all the new ways we live and work."

Former AFLW player and Survivor contestant Moana Hope - who is expecting her first child with partner Isabella Carlstrom - expressed her excitement in being involved with Koala's new campaign, saying: "I'm happy to be involved in this campaign as I grew up in a house of love and I focus more on how my house looks on the inside ... growing up, I never knew what a nursery really was until now, and we've been setting it up."
In the video released by Koala, comedian Gen Fricker explained that customers can now add their own creative lyrics to the classic song at changeourtune.com, which will be released in November.
