A man who ran into Shaquille O'Neal while out shopping says he offered his condolences over the deaths of his sister and Kobe Bryant and was left shocked when the NBA legend paid for a brand-new laptop.

Patrick Martin says he was in Best Buy looking for a new laptop when he saw Shaq.

Martin walked up to the former pro basketball player and offered his sympathies for the death of Shaq's sister Ayesha Harrison-Jex, who died last October following a battle with cancer, and LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant who passed away last weekend.

According to a post Martin shared on Facebook, Shaq was so moved by his kind words he offered to pay for the computer for him.

In the post Martin wrote: "So me and Mo just went to Best Buy to buy a laptop and we meet Shaq.

"We gave our condolences for his sister and Kobe. We walked off, then Shaq comes to us and says, 'I like y'all, so get the nicest one in here and I'll pay for it'."

The post has since been shared more than 20,000 times and has been flooded with comments from people praising Shaq for his kind gesture.

Shaq, 47, and Kobe played together for eight seasons between 1996 and 2004.

Earlier this week, Shaq shared a touching post on social media about his friend and former teammate's death in which he vowed to 'celebrate life'.

He wrote: "Been going back and forth the past couple of days on if I should even have my event in Miami this weekend.

"Part of me wanted to stay to myself a I reflect what my brother and his family mean to my family. But in thinking what would Kobe want, what would he do?

"Kobe would want us to push through and celebrate life. So, let's do just that.

"I'll be dedicating and donating all my proceeds from Friday night's Fun House to all the families who have lost loved ones and to the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Foundation.

"Together we will celebrate all those who lost their lives in Sunday's tragedy.

"RIP my brother, my friend and my homie, the Black Mamba. Until we meet again."
