Singer Carrier Underwood has told fans she might 'look different' after undergoing surgery for injuries she sustained in a fall.

Back in November, it was reported that Carrie had broken her wrist after falling on some steps outside her house, but she's since announced there was also an injury to her face that required stitches.

The former American Idol contestant told fans she hadn't admitted the full extent of her injuries until now because she wasn't ready.

In a newsletter, reported in People, she wrote: "There is also another part of the story that I haven't been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up. It's crazy how a freak random accident can change your life...

"In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I'll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike [Fisher, Carrie's husband] that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in."

Carrie added: "I honestly don't know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn't much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way."

She also told fans that she might look different now.

"I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way," she wrote. "And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different."

The country singer recently shared a photo of her face, partially covered with a scarf - it's since been flooded with comments from fans wishing her a speedy recovery and not to worry about any scarring.

Following the fall an official statement was released, which said: "Carrie Underwood took a hard fall on some steps outside her home. While there were no life-threatening injuries, she was taken to the hospital to be treated. She sustained multiple injuries including a broken wrist and some cuts and abrasions from the fall."

The accident meant that she was forced to pull out of the Country Rising benefit show.
